Who is St. Jude?
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a pediatric treatment and research facility located in Memphis, Tennessee. It was founded by Danny Thomas in 1962 who made a vow that he would use his fame and money to help change the lives of children suffering. At the hospital, children who are affected with cancer are able to obtain the care they need at no cost. Additionally, the other aim of this hospital is to pursue advances in curing pediatric cancer, with an emphasis on research and treatment.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Mission Statement:\
“The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.”
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has received many awards and accolades. In 2022, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was named the second best children’s cancer hospital in the U.S by U.S. News & World Report. While YAM Medical Center’s priority is improving quality of life and helping with pain management St Louis MO, St. Jude has a similar goal in the world of pediatric cancers.
What does St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital do?
St. Jude works to treat pediatric patients that are affected by catastrophic conditions, including cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma. They provide evidence-based therapies to help achieve the best outcomes for their little patients.
The other main aim of St. Jude is to focus on research and development of therapies. It brings together scientists and physicians from diverse fields into multidisciplinary research programs. The programs focus on basic fundamental discoveries of the basic biological processes of pediatric cancer. They then work to convert that knowledge into treatments and cures for children with various tumors of the brain, blood, and other organs. Ultimately, they also work to determine how to help survivors live longer to maximize the longevity of their lives. They conduct clinical trials for therapies that have yet to be proven in certain cancers.
They partner with many other hospitals around the country as well as internationally to help children suffering with cancer. This allows families more choice if they would need to travel to get to a location with the newest treatments available at St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Where is St. Jude located?
The main campus of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is located in Memphis, Tennessee. There are affiliate campuses across the country. These are located in cities in Alabama, Louisiana, Illinois, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Missouri. The hospitals provide a network of hematology clinics, hospitals, and universities that are united under the mission of St. Jude. Since there are many hospitals across the country, this allows families easier access to care regardless of where they live.
Why does YAM Medical Center want to give back to St. Jude?
Here at YAM Medical Center, our sole aim is to improve the quality of life in regard to pain management St Louis MO. Children are our future; they are our legacy. Unfortunately, they are also often considered a vulnerable population. Cancer is a disease which is still seemingly random in who it affects and where it develops. Pediatric cancer is one of the most devastating diagnoses that a parent can get from their doctor. It is often sudden and unexpected, and the cancer diagnosis can affect families in so many different ways, including emotionally, physically and financially.
One of the reasons we chose St. Jude is that it is in their mission statement to include all children regardless of any societal or financial differences. They have networks in place to support families during the entire process. Additionally, as a center that strives to provide evidence-based and up-to-date treatment plans for pain management St Louis MO, we appreciate St. Jude’s mission to be a driving force behind new and innovative research and treatment options. St. Jude children research hospital is pioneer in treating severe childhood conditions such as rare forms of cancer.
